Can you believe summer is coming to a close? No more flip flops, snowballs, and trips to the pool. Time to dust off the backpacks, buy those school supplies, and set the alarm clocks for OMG o’clock! It’s a real bummer, but we’re all in this together. To help you get that school train rolling, we’ve put together a handy checklist, along with a list of businesses and retailers to get you and your family ready to kick off another great (let’s be optimistic) academic year!
First for the checklist…
— Are your kids properly registered? Be sure to check, especially if they’re changing schools.
— Start filling out paperwork, if it’s available online.
— Check orientation and first day of school dates. (May as well go ahead and mark your calendar with holidays and teacher work days, too.)
— Print out your school’s online supply lists, and go shopping!
— Review specific dress code rules, especially if there are uniforms involved.
— Organize that closet and see if any of last year’s school clothes and shoes still fit.
— Double-check school hours, and secure your before/after care arrangements.
— Look up bus stop locations and pick-up times.
— Make sure your kids meet school requirements on immunizations. (See if they’re due for their annual check-up and six-month dental cleanings, while you’re at it.)
— Locate and clean up, or buy new lunch kits and backpacks.
— Get all your personalization and monogramming done, if you’re in to such stuff.
— Start adjusting those sleeping schedules, if you and your kiddos have adopted a late to bed, late to rise schedule.
— Finish up any required summer reading.
— If you have high school kids, start marking down dates for ACT and SAT exams, test prep classes, college fairs, and application deadlines.
